Vanderbilt University is committed to being a force for positive change in our community, and is proud to announce the official launch of Swipes for a Cause – a student-led initiative designed to donate unused meal funds to needy families in the greater Nashville area.

Funds collected will be used to purchase food in Campus Dining’s Munchie Marts and deliver to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.  In operation since 1978, Second Harvest distributes food to about 460 partner agencies in 46 counties; these partner groups include food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, childcare facilities, senior centers, group homes, and youth programs.

Using the GET app, students can select one of the following two donation options:

  • Meal Money – Each undergraduate meal plan includes an allotment of meal money each semester, and students can donate any dollar amount directly to Swipes for a Cause. These funds will be presented directly to Second Harvest to purchase items most in need.
  • Guest Meals – Undergraduate meal plans include 5 guest meals per semester, which can be donated to Swipes for a Cause. Donated meals will be used to purchase shelf-stable entrees and sides at Munchie Marts, which will be transported to Second Harvest for distribution.

To donate to Swipes for a Cause, students can either use the GET app or visit the GET website.

Campus Dining continues to explore ways to combat food insecurity, and is actively engaged with student groups and other campus partners to find solutions to fight hunger in our community
