New Munchie Mart Meals Announced for fall 2020
Vanderbilt Campus Dining is excited to announce the new Vandy MyPlate concept, further expanding the healthy dining choices available to students this semester. Inspired by the USDA MyPlate guidelines for healthy eating, executive chef Jordan Rogers and campus dietitian Emily Suttle partnered with longtime supplier Freshco to reimagine our grab and go options in our markets. The main driver behind these additions was to ensure more variety and well-balanced meals are available for any dietary preference, coupled with the convenience of Campus Dining’s network of Munchie Marts.
The USDA recommends modeling your meals after MyPlate to ensure you are consuming an adequate amount of the five food groups. Our MyPlate market meals contain an adequate source of protein, carbohydrates, non-starchy vegetables, and also include a piece of fresh fruit and beverage.
Selections range from a healthful, gluten friendly “Greek style chicken plate” to an innovative “Vegan Penne Pasta Plate” that features lentil penne and Italian seitan. Every meal is packaged in a microwave safe container to allow for reheating in your apartment or residence hall. For easy transport, all undergraduate students will be given a free reusable tote bag, available in all Munchie Marts.
Please note that all Vandy MyPlate-inspired Munchie Mart Meals must be ordered online using the GET app, as Munchie Marts are not allowing shoppers inside the market due to social distancing recommendations.
Also new for fall 2020 will be a relaxed Munchie swipe policy. To promote stocking up and reducing trips to dining facilities, students can now redeem up to five meals per day, including Munchie Mart Meals.
Consuming a wide variety of foods and a balanced diet supports a healthy immune system and can support academic achievement. Campus Dining takes pride in providing the highest quality, best-tasting, most nutritious and diverse foods possible to support students and staff.
