Food Safety

Vanderbilt Campus Dining takes food safety and sanitation seriously. We work closely with county health officials and receive continuous training on the latest food safety regulations. Our facilities undergo regular inspections to ensure compliance and best practices.

Key food safety measures include:

  • Hourly food temperature logs to monitor quality and freshness.
  • Ongoing staff training in food safety protocols.
  • Sanitizer use on all counters and tables.
  • Hand sanitizers available for students in all campus markets.
  • ServSafe certification for all Vanderbilt Campus Dining managers, issued by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

A dedicated food safety manager oversees these practices to ensure the health and well-being of our campus community.

Dietary Labeling

Vanderbilt Campus Dining provides dietary labeling and accommodations for students with dietary restrictions and preferences. Our menus are labeled so that students may make informed dietary choices.

How Labeling Works

Menu items containing certain ingredients are marked with symbols. For example, items containing pork or pork by-products, including gelatin are marked with the pork symbol.

Net Nutrition allows students to filter menu options based on dietary needs including vegetarian, vegan, and allergen-free preferences. This system provides detailed nutritional information, ingredient lists, and allergen details for every dish.

For halal dining, whole muscle meat products are sourced to meet the halal standards and are labeled with a halal symbol in Net Nutrition. Students can also request current halal certification documents by contacting the campus dietitian.
