Dietary Assistance

Vanderbilt Campus Dining recognizes the unique challenges students with food allergies face and is committed to providing the resources and support necessary for safe and enjoyable dining experiences. Our team collaborates with students to develop personalized strategies for managing food allergies and dietary restrictions.

Key Initiatives:

  • Allergen Meal Program: Made to order Meals through orderIT by TouchWork prepared in a dedicated allergen-free kitchen at The Kitchen at Kissam, available for pickup at Kissam, Commons, Highland.
  • MenuTrinfo Partnership: Vanderbilt collaborates with MenuTrinfo to guide allergen-free dining, oversee ingredient approvals, conduct staff training, and perform monthly allergen testing in dining halls.
  • Food Allergy Action Plan: Students can access Vanderbilt's 2024-25 Food Allergy Action Plan.

How to Request Accommodations:

  1. Contact Student Access at studentaccess@vanderbilt.edu with supporting medical documentation.
  2. Student Access will review documentation within 7-10 business days.
  3. If approved, the student will be referred to Campus Dining’s Registered Dietitian, Emily Svennevik, at dietitian@vanderbilt.edu.
  4. The dietitian will meet with the student to determine eligibility for the program.
  5. If eligible, the student will receive instructions for next steps and ongoing support.

Stock Epinephrine Initiative

Since spring 2022, Vanderbilt has stocked emergency epinephrine auto-injectors in dining halls across campus, inspired by Vanderbilt alum Chelsea Janda. Six emergency EpiPen units are mounted in visible locations at the following dining halls:

  • Cafe Carmichael
  • Commons Dining Center
  • E. Bronson Ingram Dining Hall
  • Hendrix Room / Athletics
  • Local Java
  • Rand Dining Center
  • Rothschild Dining Hall
  • The Kitchen at Kissam
  • The Pub
  • Zeppos Dining Hall

In the event of an allergic reaction, students or staff can call a helpline that connects directly to Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). A medical professional will provide instructions for administering the epinephrine and dispatch an emergency team for follow-up assistance.
